The lines have actually been drawn in, and also we are being asked to finish the shades with our creative imaginations. This participatory evaluation is what can make history so appealing it takes work, however the job repays. Or we can permit the writer a chance to fill in his universes. For my element, this things is additional impressive than the collection right.

We reach see the larger picture that every one of the Song of Ice as well as likewise Fire belongs of. If you do not desire this sort of factor, simply continue instead of screwing up the experience for others. It was a product of that world. It was a message that might have read by a scholar in Minas Tirith. It was magic. Blood has the possibility to use us this currently.

Why currently, though? For my element, I prefer to stick to the passion of an author than get average job required by followers. Fire established this universe for us; permit him follow his vision for simply exactly how it ought to continue.

He was captured up in the fantastic history of his globe as he was informing his tale, along with he needs us to have it in all of its plentiful complexity. Everyone is chosen, except Kerrigan. By: K. In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil.

In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake. Most people have heard of the Celts - the elusive, ancient tribal people who resided in present-day England, Ireland, Scotland and France.

Paradoxically characterized as both barbaric and innocent, the Celts appeal to the modern world as a symbol of a bygone era, a world destroyed by the ambition of empire and the spread of Christianity throughout Western Europe. Despite the pervasive cultural and literary influence of the Celts, shockingly little is known of their way of life and beliefs, because very few records of their stories exist. By: Philip Freeman. For three days battle has raged in the snow around the great city of Tar Valon.

In the city, a foretelling of the future is uttered. On the slopes of Dragonmount, the immense mountain that looms over the city, a child is born, an infant prophesied to change the world. That child must be found before he can be killed by the forces of the Shadow.

By: Robert Jordan. Supernatural Bounty Hunter isn't the sort of thing you see on LinkedIn. But with a rare type of magic like mine, I don't have many options.

Dangerous or not, the job is mine. And it was going fine, until an old-as-sin vampire stole my mark, and with it, my pay day. Knowing I'm poor and desperate, he has offered me a job. I'll have to work by his side to help solve a top secret case.

Everyone knows not to trust vampires. Especially a hot elder vampire. His mission to rescue an outpost leads to a dead-end canyon deep inside enemy territory, and his suspicion turns to dread when he discovers the stronghold doesn't exist.

By: Michael J. Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryenthe only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyriatook up residence on Dragonstone.

What really happened during the Dance of the Dragons? Why was it so deadly to visit Valyria after the Doom? What was it like in Westeros when dragons ruled the skies? These are but a few of the questions answered in this essential chronicle, as related by a learned maester of the Citadel and featuring more than eighty all-new black-and-white illustrations by artist Doug Wheatleyincluding five all-new illustrations exclusive to this edition.

This is a masterpiece of world-building There is no feeling quite like falling in love with a great fantasy listen, doing a little digging, and joyfully discovering that the author has an extensive catalog of audiobooks for you to dive right into.

Fantasy as a genre is particularly blessed with a wealth of diverse authors writing all different kinds of stories. These brilliant fantasy authors will transport you to another worldwhether a parallel universe or a post-apocalyptic version of Earth.

It is not historical fiction in that it is written in the style of a history, not of a fiction book. Anyone expecting a fictional story will be disappointed. This book covers about half the Targaryen's reign of Westeros. There is little dialogue - although there is some, covering more famous quote by people involved in the 'history'.

In this way it's similar to what you might see in Will Durant's 'Story of Civilization' or other history texts. The narrator here is not wholly reliable.

There are other stylistic things here that would be in history books such as the narrator directly talking to the reader ''and now we will leave this part of the story'' or ''we will come back to this guy later''. Stylistically it works perfectly for what GRRM is trying to achieve. There is some overlap here between this book and the previously released 'The World of Ice and Fire', but in much greater detail.

GRRM said that he took out thousands of words from 'The World of Ice and Fire' when editing that book, much of which would form the basis of this book. So much of this book is not exactly new writing from GRRM as it is collected and edited works. There is a second book, currently unwritten, that will cover the rest of the time period in question. How quickly he writes that second book is part of his productivity question, whereas this book was partly already there.

One thing I have not seen any review mention, yet really should be is the PDF that comes with this book. It is beautiful. It is not needed to enjoy the book, it's just the icing on the cake. I've added a full extra star to the 'overall' just for this PDF. Narration by Simon Vance is great. It suits the book perfectly. I'm not sure he would be my choice for replacement of Roy Dotrice for the main series, but for a piece of fictional history like this he is great.

He is well paced, easy to listen to and have a gravitas that works wonderfully with the text. This uses the majority of that text. The Dying of the Dragons: Being about 60, words in length. An abridged version of 30, words was included in The Princess and the Queen, which was published in the anthology Dangerous Women in I review a lot of small press and indie books - support the small guys and you may find something new you will love].

This book is not for you. If you suspect a story with characer driven development you will be dissapointed. This is a history book about all notable Targaryens, lords and events around westeros before, during and after the conquering of westeros. I enjoyed this because I am a hardcore reader and want to know every detail there is to know.

This audiobook of 27 hours! There is very little character development or story telling. It is extremely tedious at its worst and barely entertaining at its best. On a positive note, the narration performance is amazing and I am certain I would not have finished the book had it been narrated by a less talented reader. Caveat Emptor for sure. Whoever said George RR Martin has been slacking is clearly insane. This audiobook features 26 hours of content. The work itself is fascinating.

As someone obsessed with and rooting for a Targaryen restoration in the ASOIAF stories proper, 26 hours of Targaryen lore, gore, and glory is very appealing. However there is also tons of new information to fill in the gaps of our knowledge. Listener beware - this is a history. There is no story here, just lots of names, lots of years, and lots of regret. I love the world of ice and fire so much i have read and listened to it multiple times during this long wait for new material from George.

Naturally I was excited for some new history and background on house Targaryen, but as I started to listen to fire and blood I found myself checking to make sure I had not put on The world of ice and fire audio book. So much of this book is an exact copy and paste from the last history book with new paragraphs added here and there that I feel a tad ripped off.

These numbers are not researched are definitely not correct lol. All said.. I will still read and listen to this numerous times and am adding a star after having finished and read through halfway again. I feel like paying to read this book is like George Lucas saying he had a whole trilogy planned before and after Star Wars, Empire, and RotJ, but when I paid to see the prequel about Darth Vader, what I got was a guy sitting on a stool on the screen who narrates the plot of the story, devoid of any actual suspense or emotion.

This isn't so much a story as notes or backstory necessary for a robust feature presentation. I have zero emotional connection to anything that's going on in this book.

The voice acting is fine, but it's tough to rate him, because he's literally playing one character the whole time: a maester reading a chronicle of Westeros. This is not a novel. It is a fake history book written with all the finesse of the worst text book you have ever been required to sludge through to pass a much hated history class. The narration is fittingly pompous and dry. This is not the fault of the narrator though, it is the fault of the writer.

I was so excited about this book, even though I knew it wasn't the book I had been waiting for. A story about the Targaryens would have been just as satisfying for me as the long overdue Winds of Winter. But Martin breaks the number one rule of good writing with this book. I thought that this "history" would be written in the style of the other Game of Thrones books, that it would show rather than tell.

But no. Martin seems to think that just because his novels have been more popular than the bible, he is entitled to write a book in the same style and as utterly boring as the bible.

This is not a history worth knowing if you have to read or listen to this book to learn the history of the Targaryens. If this is all this author has to offer anymore, he should just give up. Take his money and go hide. This book is basically another version of the World of Ice and Fire. Not much originality. Almost this entire book was taken right out of A world of Ice and fire. Very redundant Though I expected the story to be much more interesting..

Wonderful narration of epic fictional history of Westeros through the view on the Targaryen dynasty! If only it would be created as TV show - it would completely mind-blowing! All those wars and dragons! Cannot wait for the next part!

Martin , and others. Martin is a giant in the field of fantasy literature and one of the most exciting storytellers of our time. Now he delivers a rare treat for listeners: a compendium of his shorter works, collected into two stunning volumes, that offers fascinating insight into his journey from young writer to award-winning master. The planet of Windhaven was not originally a home to humans, but it became one following the crash of a colony starship.

It is a world of small islands, harsh weather, and monster-infested seas. For my part, I prefer to stick to the rate of interest of an author than get sub-par job required by followers. Martin created this universe for us; enable him follow his vision for simply exactly how it ought to continue. However Martin is giving us his very own excellent mythology, in his extremely own life time, entire along with total amount; as well as I am a kid again with marvel. Martin R. Blood generated this globe for us; allow him follow his vision for exactly how it require to continue. He was captured up in the terrific history of his cosmos as he was informing his tale, as well as additionally he wishes us to have it in all of its plentiful intricacy.
